Lorde Takes Out Full Page of New Zealand Newspaper For a Handwritten Thank You Note

January 31, 2018 by WIHH

Lorde was at the center of some discussion surrounding the Grammys this year. Despite being the only woman nominated for Album of the Year, she wasn’t offered a solo performance at the awards show, even though all the men nominated for the award were. Instead, the 21-year-old was offered a spot in the “American Girl” tribute to the late Tom Petty, but she declined.

Still, Lorde is thankful for her nomination, and she took a full page ad out in The New Zealand Herald to express her gratitude. In a handwritten letter that she wrote while in New York City for the Grammys, the New Zealand-born artist says: “I’m writing this from New York City. Angelo [Lorde’s younger brother] & I sat in Madison Square Garden Last night & saw a lot of crazy & wonderful things. I just wanted to say thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for loving & embracing Melodrama the way you did. My nomination belongs to you. Thank you, also, for believing in female musicians. You set a beautiful precedent! All my love, Lorde.”

The letter comes with some doodles celebrating Kendrick Lamar and SZA, along with some personal Grammy highlights including meeting Jay Z and Stevie Nicks. See the full note below.
