Trippie Redd Doesn't Consider Himself a Mumble Rapper

January 23, 2018 by WIHH

Trippie Redd may have come up at the same time and through similar means as the “mumble rap” contingent, but the “Love Scars” MC said quite clearly in a January 23 interview with Power 106’s Big Boy’s Neighborhood that he doesn’t view himself as part of that scene.

“I don’t particularly feel like I’m a part of that,” Trippie said when asked about the divide between older and younger rappers. “But I am in a way ’cause I will do it, I will make music like that sometimes, but it don’t really sound like that, you know what I’m saying? ‘Cause I don’t mumble, I really say this shit, you know what I’m saying? I can rap, I can sing, I can do whatever, you know what I’m saying? I can do rock. I can do lots of shit.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Trippie also touched on his plans for 2018, his desire to work with Marilyn Manson, his feud with rapper 6ix9ine, and his rumored collaboration with Drake.

“We got songs,” he said. “They’re in the works, they still need to be mixed and mastered.”

It’s been a meteoric stretch for Trippie even compared to the beginning of 2017. He recently teased a collaboration with Lil Wayne, released “Dark Knight Dummo” with Travis Scott, and collaborated with Swae Lee on the Scott Storch-produced “TR666.” He also released his mixtape A Love Letter to You 2 in October and performed at ComplexCon 2017 in November.
