Gerald Levert took this smooth vocal song of Smokey Robinson, roughed it up with his grit and growl and made it truly his own. This, ladies and gentlemen, is real soul music.
I really believe that Gerald was about to take us places in his music we so desperately were ready to go during the time of his death. I could feel it. Gerald, as much of an impact as he already made during the tenure of his career, was about to impart on us his Marvin Gaye moment in which he really defined an era and time of music. His sound was evolving into a newer original yet throwback sound that wasn’t present at the time. I was deeply sadden to lose such a gifted talented singer as Gerald Levert. You my friend, are missed.
